Click the middle banner and check out the videos. Loved the earlier games for the open-ended gameplay. This shit is just gonna be s000 fucking cool.

You can take down a chopper with a single bullet if it flys low enough (and you know what to hit).
Whats unbelievable btw is that its out October 9

Holy info Darkeh, awesome!!

GameInformer has been telling me that the screenies we been seing only are highly rendered and touched, and that in-game isn't nearly as impressive.  They also noted in their most recent issue that the large sized maps work against players in that there is much walking around and combat is mostly done at great distance (which I think is cool being I enjoy more tactics and less run-n-gun but can see how it may become tiresome).

Thanks for all the work ya did on this post!!

Your welcome Munkay. I generally go to neogaf.com (when a new game's on its way out) Their threads have everything in them so i thought i'd follow suit.

Some of the earlier screenshots looked awsome:[ so i guess your right. But its does look cool enough (at least in my book) given the scale of the thing.

Early Renders/photo-chopped

Recent Screenshot

I reckon they could and may well have made it look that good but it probably screwed the framerate

Theres a hardcore mode that turns off all the HUD + one shot kills. Limb dismemberment etc. The smoke takes time to clear in this game, which is cool. The fog of war. Cant wait

Quote
Advanced levels of destructibility are also high on the agenda. "Everything is destructible - and it's persistent. Once it's gone, it's gone, and there's a reason for that. You have to actually be careful what you blow up, because if I blow up building X one mission, I might have really needed that building in the next mission for cover and I've blown it. So you've really got to think when you're dropping 2,000 pound bombs everywhere. These all add extra tactical challenges."
Quote
"Also, if I look at an enemy, I can actually see what his role is - it's pretty much what a sniper does. There's an officer: he's the guy with the radio. There's the machine gunner. You can actually see what people's roles are. It's much easier to give them orders and identify people as enemies," Lindop points out. "It's about making you use the UI as little as possible because a real soldier sits there and looks at the environment, looks at the world then gathers information."
Quote
"You have to assemble the weapon systems as the manual says. So if you're carrying a javelin, you have to put on the main aiming system, mount it, shoulder it and fire. We didn't want weapons to be a magic wand with bullets," he reasons. "They actually have a sense of functionality, and they have a weight."

I'm definetly having trouble deciding between this one and Demon Souls since BFBC2 won't be out till next year.

Seems like a great deal of detail orientated work has gone into OFP2 and i'm curious to see how it all comes together.

The amount of detail in this game is amazing.

I picked it up yesterday and played for a good 6 hrs.  Me and my roommate are LAN'n it and doing the campaign coop.  It's really fun.

And get this? You get shot in the legs, you aint running.  You can have a medic stop the bleeding, but your legs are fucked.  I LOVE THAT.  Once you die, you're dead.  Mission over, that's it.  Another thing I LOVE about this title.  Finally, a game where I'm not going to be annoyed by some bunny hopping rambo.

Munkay, I heard there wasn't a dedicated grenade button, that you have to cycle through a menu to get your grenade, is this true?

Post some pros and some cons, I need real opinions not crappy ign reviews very happy

planning on pc/xbox/ps3 version?  I've tried the pc and ps3 so far, own the ps3 version.

The PC is mos def. higher poly and the draw distance graphics appear more smoothly...other than that, couldn't see much of a difference for the console version besides being easier to select commands cus you have a keyboard - lul.

It seems the pros/cons for this game are really both depending on the kind of shooter you're looking for.

Simply put, most of the "pros" are cons to people that love CoD and vice versa.

My PRO's :

-Huge draw distance, and long range fighting.
-No jump functionality (hate bunny hoppers and I love a game that has enough balls to strip the function)
-Realistic damage system.  Depending where you get hit is how it affects your character.  Take one to the face - you die, in the chest, you prolly die, maybe just get knocked down and need medical assistance, legs effect your run, and arms your aim.  When you get damaged a medic can stabilize the bleeding and minorly fix your wounds to keep you on the field, but you retain the loss of aiming/movement.
-Vehicles handle wonderfully and horribly as they should.  No, humvees don't handle like a celica =)
-Enemy AI will flee, will flank, will get reinforcements, will set ambushes, will lay mines, WILL FUCK YOU!
-Squad control allows for more dynamic tactics all the way down to combat formations (spread/tight)
-Audio is amazing with great attention to various detail on sound based on what it's hitting.  A bullet careening into the ground next to you sounds different than hitting wood, or steel, or a body.
-Amazing texture/model damage from bullets.  I saw a guy's skull cap actually come off...AWESOME!

(honestly I can go on and on on what I like about this game...)

My CON's

-Graphics aren't the best on the market.  I give them leeway for this due to the scale/scope of the game.
-Commanding troops while engaged is clunky at best...pre-battle is fine but once you're bogged down your guys fear for their lives more than listen to you...which is a half-con/half-pro imho.
-Can't select your class in multiplayer - you're shoved onto a certain squad and can only pick from their weapons- although I think there is a level up system where you'll get better squad stuffs...but not positive.

Really...after about 6 hours last night...those are the only cons I can come up with - but I recognize some of my pro's may be con's to someone else.

Bottom line, this is a drawn out tactical shooter.  You crawl, you sneak, you BYPASS some enemies (fucking unheard of in shooters these days I KNOW), you actually have to think on your feet.

If you feel CoD is the "best" shooter out there - you will hate this game.  If you think CoD is too arcadey for a military shooter - you'll like the direction of this game.

If you like games in general and don't ascribe to a pro or anti CoD viewpoint - rent it and try it out.  You may find yourself addicted as I have =)

**EDIT**

PS : True, you have to select all of your inventory individually.  You can hotlink "last used" though.  I quick switch between binoculars and grenades usually then select my primary weapon.  Hard to explain, but yes - you have to cycle through a menu to pick items individually.

Munkay do you play Arma 2? Ive been playing it pretty much nonstop since it came out and I was wondering how it compares if you have played it. From what Ive read it seems to be a little more arcadey than Arma 2.

You guys should check out Arma 2 if you like this game. Its made by the same makers of the original operation flashpoint. Its a pretty buggy game and was definitely released before it was finished but patches are starting to slowly fix everything. The user interface also kinda sucks and I think opfor2 definitely has it beat in that department. It's got a pretty large modding community and its mission editor is excellent and you can create some pretty complex missions. Also, there is a ton more weapons than opfor2, all with realistic ballistics.

It also supports Track IR which is what I use and its AMAZING.

Bought it, love it. Beautifully realised. Gorgeous to look at (running at 60 fps)

The helicopter animations are as you'd expect. Most games get it wrong but when choppers come in to land or generaly turn in the sky, they move realistically

Nice atmosphere. Lots of stuff going on in the background. Smoke from a distance looks as good as those renders codemasters pumped out a while back

You need to keep the game manual on you to read the controls cuz theres loads (for vehicles)

I wouldnt say it was arcadey, ''i.am.hollywood'', Its hardcore on Normal (I havent played ArmA)

Im on mission 4. I had problems trying to finish mission three becuz of a bad checkpoint save (and trying to figure out what the fuck was going on).

Been playing for around 6 hours. This game appears to be huge. Anyone know how many missions there are?

Tips
The game manual doesnt state that you can switch between "White Hot and Black Hot'' but you can by switching your lights on (up d-pad)

Hold 'X' down to switch between ammo types

Hold 'Back' down to view objectives

Press right d-pad to turn an engine off/on to listen to your radio clearly

Ya, that's a tough one, me and my roommie took many o tries lol.

Add Jwuzzle and Munkt0r to ps3 id if you'd like some help.

We've beaten the campaign already and the multiplayer needs some work imho, but this is a solid game for those whom enjoy tactical shooters.

Thanks for the Darkeh, but i've already input'd the codes for the bonus missions and completed them.  I've beaten everything in this game cept upping my multiplayer rank.  Which i'm not going to bother with until they patch the system and one of my ps3's is in the shop at the moment so i'm focusing on Demon's Souls singleplayer for now.

But thanks again for the heads up on the bonus missions!

I love this, giving out your nicks just to help a guy out, fucking awesome.

Too bad you don't have an xbox munkay, we could have rocked the universe!!

On topic, This thread is great, full of helpful info, still on the fence with this game, almost everybody in my list has it, but for me it's just to close to Modern Warfare 2, and that's a must buy for me, and since second hand stores are all over the place here, I just feel like I can wait it out with OP Flash and just get it there in a month or two..

Since Darkhorse doesn't have a headset playing with him is going to be hard (sending eachother messages the whole time having to pause the game very happy)

If we could get an old school bfl clan with this one, where we are all disciplined and have a certain role and work as a real team (check the new Battlefield 2 Bad company 2 trailer to see what I mean) we could own the shit out of this on multiplayer and co-op.

The FOV sucks and so does the radial command thingamabob. And the fact that there's a hard limit of 63 AIs. Codemasters are lying assholes.

Other than that it's fun, and it runs really well as opposed to ArmA 2.

I shot a few rounds in the direction of a helicopters pilot seat in general frustration at not being able to shoot them down and carried on (knowing i'd missed). I saw it on th ground further down the valley.

Just seeing it on the ground on a bright day with the beautiful day light reflecting off it was sweet :]

The amount of negativity this games had is mind-boggling.

76 at Metacritic?

This game in my opinion is the Grand Theft Auto of War.

Sniping at distance with a high caliber rifle feels great because its harder the further you have to shoot

I saw a single large round come at me through my thermal scope and watched it arc down and THUD into the ground to my left

After hours on the ground i flew a transport chopper (the one in the first picture) and the experience was akin to the feeling i got from flying over Vice City for the first time. Fucking gorgeous.

It has more ''just one more go'' appeal to it than any other game ive ever played

If they released the spec-ops (JDAM bombing) mission as a demo, you'd all go out and buy this.

I havent payed for any game that came under 80 at Metacritic before this and its because i watched it grow and knew what i was getting in terms of quality.

BUY THIS GAME

yes im talking to you Kami!1!

 aww hell yeah *squirt*
