But it is made by the same people. I'm very close to splashing out on it

i was all about this game until i realized they're using a Mass Effect / Knights of the old Republic battle system and not a Baldur's Gate / Champions of Norrath type of battle system.
I'm sure the game will be great as i've enjoyed both the titles i mentioned above, but i'm looking for a more traditional hack n slash - the call out options and then watch bores after a while for me.
The lack of a co-op system disheartened me as well.

It can be. I think it has a similar concept as Fallout 3 where you can "pause" the game to queue up attacks. Or, you can just play it straight.
I've seen quite a few videos and this is a game I will probably get.

It's realtime with pause like their other games, only not using D&D rules. It's everything but hack 'n slash.

It's awesome.
As an aside, I've found out that when Munkay doesn't like a game I love it because it's fun. That kid don't know from fun.

FYI - bought this on Steam last night and was checking email before going to bed when I got the notice that the download notifier indicated it was done. I figured I would install and maybe create my character before going to sleep. That turned into almost three hours of playing... Went to bed at 2:30am. Youch.

You never once had anyone else in your party in Mass Effect? Wow, you made the game a LOT harder for yourself then ahah. Did you play KOTOR 1 or 2? The battle system is very similiar. You'll walk into a room and you hit spacebar (or similiar) to pause the game and assign attacks/spells for each of your members then hit spacebar again and watch the battle flow. As issues arise you'll pause to change attacks/spells and then resume the fight again. You can do presets for the AI but that'll usually fail you as they'll choose a dumb spell or run up to a mob and die - so basically you micro-manage combats and not truly experience them. I like games with that battle system but for this title I was hoping for a pure real time system and that the party could be filled by online buddies...which is not the case.

I have a few friends that use the "Munkay dun like it so i'll love it" system and it works well for them. It isn't that I don't "know" fun, I simply don't have the same fun you do.

Well, personally, I'm having a blast with it so far. I just got passed the battle with the ogre at the top of the tower and I got absolutely crushed about 7 times. Eventually, I just used some tactical hit and runs as well as a heavy dose of taunting to get through it.
Before calling it a night yesterday I had just arrived in Lothering. I fast-traveled there though so I don't know if I missed anything. I almost want to go back...

Bought the CE yesterday. Had some problems downloading the DLC after redeeming the code (not showing up in game). Turned out I have to run the game as administrator or it doesn't see and download the DLC (Vista 32), and I don't even have it installed in Program Files :/
Game's fun though. Playing a city elf rogue with a main in archery, though I hear it's a bit weak. We'll see. I'm just past the origin story now.
