I'm going to do an elf magi next i think.
That's what I'm playing as and it's an absolute blast. Anyone who says that the tactics slots don't work doesn't know what they are doing. I've put 20+ hours in and only had to reload once, and most of the time my party is running on their own with me controlling the main. I'll micromanage sometimes but because I LIKE doing that in combat once in a while, to set up traps and combinations with the whole party.

Ya, i find shit goes bad if i micromanage. the ai is still better than me...
Anyone know how the difficulty goes? Do the bad guys scale to your level? Will I ever be able to walk into a room unprepared for what comes next knowing that my party is bad ass and it doesn't matter what's behind the next door?

I don't think there is scaling, which I prefer - I hate scaling. I'm getting my ass stomped by a revenant in the woods, and barely chipping at his health.

From what I've read on the da forums, there is some scaling, but not as ridiculous as Oblivion. Ah, look here, a good explanation: You are not allowed to view links. Register or LoginTLDR: areas have a min and max level range. If you're between it, the enemies scale to your level, otherwise they don't and pick the min or max level of that range, whichever is appropriate.

That makes sense, and is acceptable as far as scaling goes. Thanks for the link. Once this has happened, the game stores these values and they are never changed. Creatures in Dragon Age: Origins, once encountered, will never change their existing level, to allow the player to come back to an area later and overcome previously impossible challenges, therefore having getting sense of accomplishment. That is cool.

The only thing that has bugged me about the game is that there are a few times that I managed to die and I hadn't saved in a while. There should be some kind of automatic save as you travel using the world map.

I've finished Redcliffe, the Circle of Mages and the Elves. I need to get the dwarves on board now. Also have a shit ton of side quests that I should probably look into... This game is epic.

Ya. I heard that too. I couldn't play yesterday, too many sports last night... After you secure the help of all the allies, is there still a lot to do?

Eh, kinda, but then again once I did that I pretty much tried to speed through it cause I wanted to see how it would end. So theres prob some stuff I missed. My ending was pretty cool and you can see how its set up for a sequel.

My party is so incredibly buffed right now it's not even funny. I just got Wynne (late in the game, I'm level 14), and with her buffing us and the bard's song adding on it's nuts. I always have a tank with as well, plus my blood mage/arcane warrior in the blood dragon armor with spellweaver equipped with Slow and some other stat-killing rune and ON FIRE my main is a tank as well - a tank that casts inferno and Mana Clash (ie the one-hit killer for groups of mages).

Maybe I'm just not very good at this game, but I couldn't swing enough votes in Denerim so I had to duel fuckface at the end and it was a much tougher fight than I had hoped for... He didn't have any problems knocking me over and he was dealing huge amounts of damage, meanwhile half my attacks missed and none of my skills were effective. Wasted about 6 potions to beat him.

I just got this game After reading this thread I started of as an elven mage, I am digging all the story and dialogue, bit like an interactive movie I guess. I would have preferred it more without having a team but I noticed that even when they die it only takes a few mins and they get back up and rejoin you(wtf?). So far I would give this game a 6/10, I dont like linear dungeons and never will. I wont even try to consider comparing this to Oblivion, This game is more like Fable with a team I dont really want. being new to the fantasy genre I am very sceptical about the combat and I was kinda hoping for a fuckton more magic but as usual the makers held the conservative stance. The enviroment looks nice but thats mostly all it can do, great artists, lazy coders. I suppose I will just have to wait for the next Elder Scrolls game, fuck expansions.

So I loved this game in the beginning...despite the lack of coop functionality AT ALL.
After grinding away and putting considerable time into it, I feel the story elements were really well done but overall too static. I didn't feel like my choices really affected all that much.
Sound got turned off quickly. Very annoying voice-overs during combat and horrid music. HORRID!
With that said, I was annoyed that a small side-quest (V.M. side quest) Gax Karthang had a tougher mob than even the end ArchDemon. I'm not kidding. After I beat Gax Karthang during loading sequences it named him as the toughest mob beaten...and AFTER the end boss fight during loading screens Gax Karthang was still listed. If you haven't done that quest go check him out. I think if you go at him 15th level or plus he scales to beast heh. In fact, the end ArchDemon was a joke with the number of extra troops they give you. Not to mention...a ballista? Really? Snore-fest. At least Demon Souls had their ballista-dragon fight have sweet cinematics. I don't like the "talk to a million NPC's to hear the story's ending in pieces" approach either.
What happened to the good old days of a long rpg movie ending? That's what I want honestly. I will normally play through an entire game just for the end movie. (Imagine the dissapointment from Borderlands lol)
Overall, 7 out of 10 is the best I can give this title.

Gax was a tough fight, until I discovered Cone of Cold, which they subsequently nerfed...
That being said, the best part of this game, I think, is the interaction between the other party characters. Some of the dialogue between Morrigan and Oghren for example is absolutely hilarious.
